Key Green Supports Relay for Life

Key Green Solutions helped with the set-up of the Relay for Life Event in Walker, Michigan. The team was putting out signs along the track, setting up registration tent and tables, organizing t-shirts, and setting up the photo booth/arches.
Relay for Life is the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, which seeks to remember loved ones lost to cancer, honor survivors of all cancer, and raise money to help make a larger impact on the global impact of cancer.

Key Green Solutions Sorts It Out

Key Green Solutions kicked off the first day of Art Prize by volunteering at the S.O.R.T. station, which served as a waste station to help educate participants on how to properly dispose of their waste. S.O.R.T station bins and volunteers were stationed outside throughout the Art Prize venue, and enthusiastically educated visitors about the compost, recycling, and landfill options.
Art Prize brings nearly 400,000 visitors to Grand Rapids for an independently organized art competition, making the S.O.R.T stations an opportune time to educate and minimize waste from the event. The S.O.R.T stations are in partnership with Art Prize and the West Michigan Environmental Action Council, all of which is an effort to support the City of Grand Rapid’s commitment to sustainability.

Key Green Solutions Teams Up With Well House

The Key Green team got to flex their muscles and break a sweat in the name of helping the community. Key Green Solutions spent several hours working in one of eight urban garden lots weeding, mulching, and clearing an urban garden for a local Grand Rapids organization, Well House.

Well House provide safe, affordable housing for the homeless. The organization purchases vacant homes in Grand Rapids and turns them into beautiful and vibrant homes for those in need. Homes are provided to those in the most dire of needs and residents are allowed to stay until they are ready to move on. Their vision for the organization includes creating a vibrant community and neighborhood connected by land and the food from it, people, and culture.
Their eight urban gardens provide residents with an opportunity for income and freshly grown produce to eat. The organization even offers cooking classes to residents to inspire them to cook more and use the ingredients from the garden.
Rachel Brown, Relationship Coordinator, commented, “It was such a positive experience for our organization to work with Well House. We all feel aligned with their purpose to help those in need and the urban garden is beautiful and functional. We look forward to spending more time volunteering in their urban garden. “

Key Green Gives Back

Key Green Solutions sponsored and volunteered in the 5th annual Rivertown Races, a half marathon and 5k which supported local organizations dedicated to children’s health, education, and well-being.
The Key Green team worked an aid station in the half marathon run, handing out water, Gatorade, and cheering on the participants. Our company values staying involved in the community and giving back to local organizations.
Tim Schuitema, Implementation Coordinator, commented, “It was really nice to get together as a team to take pride in the community.”

Key Green Solutions creates 2017 Practice Greenhealth Award export

Key Green Solutions is proud to announce their exclusive partnership with Practice Greenhealth to create a data export for the 2017 Practice Greenhealth Awards, which is now available to all Key Green customers.
This feature is located directly on the Key Green Solutions portal, allowing all customers to have access to a simple data export to download their data. This allows for a seamless application process, as Key Green customers will no longer have to manually enter the data into the award application. This data export alleviates some of stress associated with award application season.
Sister Mary Ellen Leciejewski, Director of Ecology, Dignity Health commented, “through our partnership with Key Green Solutions, starting this year, the Practice Greenhealth Award Application will be so much easier to complete because of Key Green Solutions’ ability to upload all our quantitative data into the award application. In 2016 only 7 Dignity Health hospitals applied for awards because of how much time it takes to complete the award application. In 2017, Dignity Health will be able to apply for System for Change Award, because all 37 hospitals will have data uploaded by Key Green Solutions saving our hospitals weeks of work thanks to Key Green. Our exciting partnership continues to expand as the opportunities grow in our health system to become more sustainable”.

Key Green Solutions Instrumental in Plastics Recycling Study

Key Greens Solutions is proud to provide the software engine to participating hospitals for a plastic recycling initiative in the Chicagoland area. http://www.hprc.org/chicago-project
Key Green Solutions partnered with HPRC and the Plastics Industry Association to track the solid waste and recycling coming out of multi-hospitals in the Chicago market in order to provide data and insight into the recycling of healthcare plastics on a regional basis. Overall, the study has helped hospital organizations to identifying areas of opportunity to increase healthcare plastics recycling.

Palomar Health saves over $30,000 annually in waste service costs by reducing the number of pickups!

Barbara Hamilton, System Sustainability Manager at Palomar Health, states “when I was
looking at the data in the Key Green Solutions dashboard, I noticed that our Palomar
Downtown campus was paying twice as much per ton as the other two campuses for
municipal solid waste, (regular trash). Upon closer inspection, and because all the information is in the same place and easy to compare, I noticed that the waste compactor at Palomar Downtown campus was being picked up for disposal 3 times per week, and it only needed to be picked up one time per week.  Apparently the schedule had never been changed after the move to Palomar Medical Center. By catching this in the software and reducing that service, we are now saving over $20,000 per year. We made a similar adjustment at Palomar Medical Center and reduced service by one day and are saving an additional $10,000 at that campus.”
